Welcome back to Term 2 - Another busy term!

This term our Topic is called Wriggly, Squiggly Worms. The school is to receive a worm farm this term which will enable us to reduce the food waste that the school produces.

We are also going to have a tree planting day this term called Dig deep or Donate. Details about this will follow later.

You may be aware of our trip to the Transfer Station at Henderson on Thursday 29 May from 9am-1pm. The cost is $10/$12 (no loyalty card). Please complete the consent and return payment if you haven't already. I have some spare forms if you need one.

For Art this term we are learning about sketching and shading. We are having tuition from a professional artist called Graham Dodd. A special project the school is taking part in is an artwork to commemorate that it has been 100 years (starting August 2014) since the outbreak of WWI. Centenary commemorations will take place over 4 years. I will send out a separate newsletter about the artwork that is planned.

This is the Transfer Station newsletter:

Kia ora whanau, parents and caregivers

There are two events planned for Ara Teina’s Term 2 theme studies:

Art Workshop
As part of our Visual Arts curriculum we have organized Graham Dodd (Artist) to provide an art workshop on Friday 16 May.   Graham Dodd will be covering aspects of sketching and shading.

Trip to the Transfer Station, Henderson
As part of our Science and Technology curriculum we will be learning about sustainability and investigating what happens to rubbish after it leaves our homes.

We require parent helpers on our trip as the safety ratio of adult to children is 1:3.  Safety regulations and effective supervision ask that if you bring a preschooler, then we are unable to include you as an assistant.  For this trip, parents will accompany us on the bus to the Transfer Station.  We will be leaving school at 9am and will return by approximately 1pm.
Safety regulations also ask that all participants wear covered shoes.

Morning tea and a small drink in a named plastic bag will need to be provided.  We will return to school for lunch.

Your child’s class will visit the Transfer Station on Thursday 29 May.

Thank you for your support.
