Ava Returned from Tonga

Ava shared her news from Tonga and she had a written journal of her trip and also pictures! We enjoyed the way she read from her journal and referred us to pictures she had drawn of the trip. Thanks Ava, it made your news so interesting. Ava brought us a gift of a Tongan fan. It makes our room look good and we can use it when we're hot! We love it.

A funny thing that happened was that we received Ava's postcard from Tonga after Ava came back. She chose it because there are lots of pigs and dogs in Tonga.

How To make a poi

Use this video if you would like to make your own poi at home. For the plaited cords I used stretchy material and cut it into 3 strips and plaited it. I used some newspaper for the inside just like in the video and wadding to put around the outside. Wadding can be purchased from spotlight or the material shop by the metre. Or you could use the middle of an old pillow like me. Then you just wrap the poi in a plastic bag and sellotape. You can even just leave out the wadding. Neeti made her own poi using a plastic bag for the cord - so clever! Poi making link here

E Rere Taku Poi!

We are learning location words in Te Reo:

ki runga - up
ki raro - down
ki roto - in
ki waho out

The boys and girls assessed each other's performance and gave feedback on how it could be improved. How do you think we did?

Miss Kay Started Today & Spring Fair

Miss Kay is our new student teacher from Auckland University and she is with us for 5 weeks. This has come at the right time for us as we are preparing our stall for the School Fair. If you check the tabs on the blog, you will see there is a new one called 'Spring Fair.' It will update you on what's happening. The PSG will also be putting messages on our blog.

Performance on Friday and Premiere of our Video

On Friday at 9am in the hall we are presenting our Road Safety Jingle 'Give it a go' in our t-shirts with the road safety logo we designed: 'Bike, scoot, skate or walk'. All the junior classes will be showing their videos or performing their jingles. As you know the children put a lot of effort into designing their logo, deciding on music and thinking up lyrics. They decided on actions to the jingle and also the locations we shot our video. Shooting a video turned out to be a bit boring and repetitive and not as exciting as some thought. All going according to plan, it will be ready by Friday. The purpose of our safety message is to lessen congestion at the front gate. Maybe there will be an appearance by a Safety Super Hero? Who knows?
