Notices
Hats are Back! It's Term 4 and time for the hats to come back to school. Please send hats to school as part of your child's uniform.

Birthday Treats - There is no expectation that you send treats to school for special occasions. If you would like to, some cut up fruit is just as exciting as sweets and the brain break will help our learning. Thanks for your understanding.
The Pool is open after labour weekend and I should know before then the time we have for our swimming sessions. I will let you know as soon as I can.

Celebrate the Festival of Lights
It's been an amazing and colourful first week of school. This is Anushka in a sari that her Mum helped her to put on. I watched it and it's not easy to put on but well worth it. Our girls looked like princesses this week!
Sari
Diyas'
Ariana brought some in from home and shared them for news. They are pretty.
Indian Treats
Look what Nafisa brought in! Thank you Ameena for making these for us. I would like to show you pictures of the children enjoying these treats but I can't because they ate them so fast!!!

Hot rocks!
Today we made our rocks for the Spring Fair. The rocks were hot when they came from the oven - but they cool quite quickly- so we had to work fast to melt the crayons on to the rocks.
DIWALI!
It is Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Our Topic Studies are about the cultures we have in NZ. We are also learning about other countries and the lives that children live in those countries. As part of Social Studies we will look at the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and giving the children knowledge about what is a need and what is a want will start to build understandings about rights and what they are.
Last weekend was the Auckland City Diwali celebrations and this weekend is the West Auckland Diwali celebration at the Trusts Stadium. Our children shared their news about what happened last week. Some of the girls wore or brought in their Salwar Kameez (so beautiful!!!).
We played with the coloured rice we made yesterday (not for Rangoli because we have to make our rice jars later). It was fun.
Nishita came in to show us a powerpoint. She told us about the 5 days of Diwali, And about the clothes (Ariana shared her clothes),
Nishita told us about henna and Fabiola showed us her henna. Nishita taught us some dance moves. She showed us a video about the story of Ram and Sita.
Nishita was AMAZING! Thanks Nishita. We enjoyed it so much.
We are learning to sort information
Statistics is about sorting and displaying information so we can see it straight away. This is our bar graph that we made from our Venn diagram. We looked at the NEEDS circle and the 4 things we thought were most important and then we each chose the need that was the most important to each of us. In the upcoming weeks we will be discussing the reasons for our decisions and justifying our choices.
We worked out what was most important by coming up with a meaning or definition and then we used examples and talked about whether it was a need or want e.g. electricity. Pretty tricky but not for Room 12.
