Week 5 Notices 18 August to 22 August

Mrs Walmsley's Last Week

It's Mrs Walmsley's last week this week. We've loved having Mrs Walmsley teaching in our class and we'll miss her. Have a chat and say bye when you are next in class.

Parent Interviews

This week  Monday and Wednesday after school.

Green - Athon

Children are learning their facts and gathering their sponsors ready to be tested in 2 weeks time - Week 7.

Topic Studies - Safe from Harm

We walked around the block with Constable Carl, practising looking down driveways and making sure we walked on the house side of the footpath.

To continue our theme we will be creating a safety logo that we will be printing on to T-shirts. I will be asking you to supply an old t-shirt that we can print the logo on to. We do not need new T-shirts as we intend to re-use an existing t-shirt that the children own in line with our GREEN theme this year. It doesn't matter if it has a picture on it as we can turn it inside out. However we will need a pale t-shirt to help the logo stand out.

We have created a jingle to spread our safety message and we will be filming actions to go with it. This week we will work on our storyboard.

School Fair

The School Fair will be held next term. Each class has been asked to have it's own stall. If you have a good idea for a stall that Room 12 could provide for and run, let me know.

PJ & B'Day

Didn't we all look cute on Friday with our PJ's on. Fran and Mrs Walmsley surprised us with a birthday cake for Finn and I. Thank you Room 12 for a fabulous Day!

Craig Barrett visits Arahoe School with his Commonwealth Games Medal

On Friday 8 August Isabella's Dad visited us and brought his medal for us to see. He was an inspiring speaker and he patiently answered our questions. He even handed his medal around for us to touch. It was a silver medal from the Manchester Games. Craig explained to us how he was a racewalker and he  showed us what racewalking looked like and helped some children to have a go. Craig you're a great sport! Thanks Isabella for sharing your Dad.

Safety at the Crossing

After talking with the Road Patrol, we went up to the Crossing to practice crossing the road with Constable Carl.

We remembered what we had to do and during Writing, we wrote instructions for how to cross the road.

Visitors to Room 12

Dempsey and Danah from the Road Patrol and Constable Carl arrived to answer our questions.

How do you cross safely:

Are you allowed to ride your bike?

Why do you wear those clothes?

How do you stop people?

Do you like it?

Constable Carl said we asked great questions and he chose 2 children who had asked questions to wear his Police vests.

Getting ready for Road Patrol Visit

We prepared for our visitors on Thursday 31 July by having questions ready.
WALT: Ask questions
Success criteria: I can start with a question word, I can ask a question about road patrol.
