Tree planting Day!

What a fun morning!

First, Dai Henwood and Urzila Carlson started off the event by opening it for us and they were pretty funny. Even though it had been sunny and warm, as soon as we went to get our tree, the skies clouded over and it poured with rain. Luckily, Caio's Dad had given us a rain cover AND we could all fit under it! It was hilarious. Then we found our tree and David (Luca's Dad) and Vanessa (Levi's Mum) helped us with the planting. Next was hot chocolate and and cake! Couldn't get any better than that.

We are learning to make a worm farm

For technology homework the children in our syndicate are being asked to make a worm farm at home (it does not need to be brought to school).

The children need to decide what the purpose for their worm farm is e.g. to observe earthworms or to create compost and worm wee for the garden and this will help them work out what they need. Worm farms can be made from ice cream containers, large yoghurt containers - any plastic containers that may be larger enough or stackable. Head over to the Ara Teina Topic page for ideas.

We made a worm farm for the class on Friday out of a soft drink bottle and some things we found around the school e.g. stones, sand and soil. When we find some earthworms we will be able to watch the worms creating their tunnels. Cool!

Class Photo & Introducing Mrs Walmsley

This is our class photo (the final is in colour). Please ask the office for an envelope so you can make your order. I believe it is the last week this week.

In two weeks Mrs Walmsley will be working with Room 23 for six weeks in completion of her teaching degree. Room 23 children have met and spent time with Mrs Walmsley and they enjoy her visits to our class. Say hi when you see her around.
